I stopped reading and listening to the news media years ago. My belief is that if news is worthy it will find me... I don't need to waste my time searching for it. I found the same relief in listening to music as opposed to spending way too much time on the news, which is all negative, and my twitter feed, which is decidedly negative about the news. Finding that balance is hugely important because you're right - there's too much that's going on to just tune it out and sing Happy Days - but focusing on it nonstop isn't healthy either.
